Itinerary

Day 1WELCOME TO ITALY

Welcome to Italy – or as the locals say “Benvenuti in Italia!” Upon arrival in Milan, guests will be met by a John Hall’s Alaska World Adventure representative and transferred to the home for the next two evenings, the Radisson Touring Hotel located in the heart of Milan. Take in the afternoon at your leisure before a welcome dinner with fellow traveling companions. Immerse in the Italian food, wine and extravagant culinary scene.

Day 2MILAN HIGHLIGHTS AND ART

After a welcome breakfast, this morning includes a visit to view Leonardo de Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” Enjoy a local guide sharing the 15th-century masterpiece and pivotal work of the High Renaissance. Following lunch, visit Milan’s Duomo, taking in the rooftop terrace and spanning views showcasing the construction, stonework and Renaissance era treasures. End the day with the culinary traditions of Milan and dinner.

Day 3FRANCIACORTA WINE REGION

Depart Milan for the first venture into Italy’s wine region, known for the sparkling wine production using a traditional method. Over lunch, enjoy a wine tasting experience with a historical narrative of the important viticulture heritage of the region. Following lunch, visit Iseo, a historical Medieval planned city including Saint Andrew’s Church. Check into the L’Albereta Resort tucked in Italy’s Franciacorta region filled with luxury at every turn.

Day 4VENICE BY BOAT

Following breakfast, depart for Venice. While the bustle of Venice is often a highlight, travel by private boat directly to the accommodations for the next two evenings, Palazzo Pruili, located on the quiet island of Venice. This is a perfect showcase of the city known to be built on water. Following lunch, visit Saint Mark’s Square. Spend the remainder of the evening at leisure taking in the beautiful hotel, city and location.

Day 5VENICE HIGHLIGHTS

After a short walk to the ferry terminal, or Zattere, a day of exploring Venice highlights awaits. This includes visiting the “hidden gems of Venice” – Sestieri, Dorsoduro, Santa Croce and San Polo – all districts within Venice. While all are incredibly different, all provide a valuable background to the history and fight of Venice through the Roman Empire of the 5th and 6th centuries to as recently as the 20th century. Explore on your own this afternoon while enjoying time at leisure.

Day 6ISLANDS OF VENICE

Transfer by boat today to a variety of locations around Venice. Start with Burano known for its history in lace-making, colorful houses and a significant fishing history. Continue to Murano for a glass blowing demonstration showcasing the significant centuries-old tradition and fine craftmanship. This evening, check into accommodations on the island of Murano before enjoying dinner and a new perspective of the waters surrounding Venice.

Day 7RAVENNA AND PERUGIA

Enjoy the last glimpse of Venice as guests board a private vessel to Tronchetto, waving goodbye to the beautiful city. Continue the journey via motorcoach to Perugia, the capital of Umbria, marking the transition from the coastal city to the historical heartland of central Italy. Stop in Ravenna, a city nestled within the heart of the Italy’s famous food region of Emilia-Romagna, which includes eight UNESCO designated World Heritage Sites. Continue to Perugia, one of the earliest and most influential cities, cultures and historical locations in pre-Roman Italy. Settle into the accommodations for the next three evenings, the boutique Locanda Della Posta, located in the heart of Perugia just steps from history.

Day 8MEDIEVAL HERITAGE OF PERUGIA

Start the morning by experiencing Perugia with a guided tour visiting the historical center of town. Continue to the Abbey of St. Peter, including the genetics of Perugia history. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure while experiencing the hotels offerings, location and culinary delights.

Day 9EXPERIENCE UMBRIA’S CULTURE

Italy is known for far more than just its wine and pasta. Today, experience another delight of the culinary scene. The day begins with an olive oil tour and tasting experience. Visit one of the leading local producers learning firsthand Umbria’s and Italy’s agriculture traditions. This afternoon, visit Assisi, the birthplace of St. Francis, before returning to Perugia.

Day 10ORVIETO AND ROME

Depart Perugia and venture towards one of Italy’s most well known cities – Rome. Recognized for the history, Rome is certainly a fabulous finish to the Italian experience. En route to Rome, stop in Orvieto for a guided tour of the Orvieto Cathedral, featuring gothic architecture and a fantastic feat of engineering. Continue to Rome, the former capital of the Roman Empire, and arrive at the Monti Palace Hotel, home for three evenings. Experience a rooftop dinner waiting upon arrival.

Day 11ANCIENT ROME

Experience ancient Rome through a guided tour, starting with the highlights of the city. Visits include the Flavia Amphitheatre, more commonly referred to as the Colosseum. Feel the history while experiencing one of Rome’s most emblematic symbols of history. Visit the Arch of Constantine, Roman Forum and the political center of Rome including Palatine Hill. Experience a Roman lunch before continuing the walking tour and returning to the hotel for the remainder of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 12ROME HIGHLIGHTS

Start the day with the Vatican Museums and a view of the Sistine Chapel. After passing through the Vatican walls, continue to one of the most fascinating museums in the world. Finish with the Sistine Chapel, which was entirely created by the masterful hands of Michelangelo. A farewell dinner awaits while reminiscing about the Italian experience covered through the past twelve days.

As the memories of Italy come to a close, guests transfer to the Rome Airport according to scheduled flights.

Arranging Your Flights

Home city arrival and departure airfare is not included. Guests may arrive anytime on Day 1 and depart at anytime after 8am on Day 13.
